Best Travel Destinations for Singles Over 50

Best Travel Destinations

Are you single, over 50, and not sure where to travel this year? Don’t worry. We’re here to help!

Summer is in the air, and there is no better time to travel than right now! However, if you’re single and over 50, traveling by yourself may seem daunting. If Cancun was the go-to destination when you were 20, it may not be your scene anymore. Here at Stitch, we have scoured the globe for the 5 best travel destinations for singles over 50 that will give you the best opportunity to have fun and meet people your age at the same time.

Best Travel Destinations

The Bahamas

A cruise ship is an excellent way to meet other singles just like you, and there are many affordable cruises traveling to the Bahamas year around. The Bahamas is one of the most beautiful places in the world. In addition to being beautiful, there are actually a lot of activities to do while on the ship, or on the island, with others. One can go on a fishing excursion, take a boat trip to snorkel at the reefs, and even swim with dolphins. Cruise activities may include card games, dance lessons, magnificent pools, casinos, exercise classes, and of course, mixes for singles!

Best Travel Destinations

Gold Coast, Australia

The Gold Coast, Australia is for the outdoors type that enjoys adventure. The most popular vacation spot in Australia offers beautiful beaches to relax on and wilderness to explore. Enjoy a paddle boarding class with others, rainforest group tours, and bungee jumping with a partner.  There are also many places to hike and bike, and the Gold Coast boasts numerous delicious restaurants that will satisfy any taste. The locals and travelers are known for being incredibly friendly and welcoming, so it will be very easy to meet people along your trip.

Best Travel Destinations

Hawaii can be one of the best places to meet other singles. All inclusive resorts can offer guided scuba diving/snorkeling and whale- watching excursions for people over 50 in their resort welcome packages, or for an additional fee. Like the Australian Gold Coast, you can participate in activities, like boating, or take a hike through the beautiful greenery. But what Australia cannot offer you is the chance to experience a true Hawaiian Luau. Dine with other mature singles as you experience delicious food and native Hawaiian customs.

Best Travel Destinations

Costa Rica

For the person who likes peace and quiet and is looking for a break from the maddening crowds, Costa Rica is for you. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to lounge around the beach and explore peaceful rain forests. You will also have the chance to tour the wildlife reserves and discover unbelievable volcanoes. But the best part? Costa Rica’s lodging and dining are relatively inexpensive and can stay within a modest budget.

Best Travel Destinations

If the tropical climate is not your cup of tea, Amsterdam should be your next travel destination. This city is actually one of the more beautiful cities in the world, and full of culture. You can spend a quiet day walking or biking, along the canals through the city, where you can check out the organic markets, and purchase local delicatessens, along the way. Or you can experience some of the most famous pieces of artwork with a group tour at the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. Amsterdam is a busy place full of interesting people to meet on your guided tours of different attractions around town.

At Stitch, we want everyone’s travels to be fun, yet safe. When traveling to a different country, take a minute to research any cultural differences/laws that may be different from your own country. Also, consult with your doctor about any vaccines needed to visit that country. Finally, be mindful of your surroundings when in the foreign countries.

Do you have a trip planned for 2015? Do you want to try one of the places we mentioned? Have you already traveled some place this year? We want to know! Feel free to comment below and share. Safe travels!

UPDATE: Stitch is now offering group travel opportunities! All verified Stitch members can join a cruise or tour with other solo Stitch travel enthusiasts. You can also ask to share a room to save money, and meet a new friend! Our first trip to Mexico was a great success and we have several more lined up for 2016 & 2017, including a Group Trip to Cuba, A Cruise of the Northern Lights, and a Meetup in Vegas! I’m intrigued by this format and hope to make best use of this. Other dating sites are heavy handed and very controlling. Free me from that choaking environment. All I want is a companion who may become something more. I want to travel, visit places of interest and generally have a great time seeing this country from the ground as oppossed to 34 years of seeing this country from 39000 feet. Perhaps a travel trailer is in my future. Could be fun!

    1. John

Hi ! I agree with you totally ! I’ve been retired for a year now and being single has left me with a huge void in my life ! I’m thinking of purchasing a motorhome and travelling America and canada for a few years ! Not sure if travelling alone is a good idea ! Hopefully I will find a like minded woman who feels the same !

      1. Jennifer

That sounds like a great way to travel.

      2. Linda

      3. Melanie

        Hi John
Sounds like an amazing thing to do, travel around the world we live in and explore at your own pace.
I love getting in my vehicle and just driving to see where I end up!!!
We never seem to notice the beauty in our own back yards.

      4. Kate

      6. Stacy

        Hi John,
I’m interested in finding a travel companion or more to enjoy life’s adventures with also. Your idea sounds great!! Have you begun your journey? If so, hope you’re enjoying yourself.

      7. Jan Miller

I sure would consider travelling some of the time. More info please.

  2. Saadet

I love to cruise and travel, however single supplement is very at times not affordable. Will you have any group tours to eliminate the single supplements?
    thank you

    1. Andrew Dowling

      Hi Saadet,

At this stage we’re not planning on offering tours ourselves, but the idea behind Stitch is definitely to help people find companions for travel so that they can share the costs. That doesn’t need to be just one travel companion either … you could easily group with multiple people to travel together. It’s still early days for Stitch so it all depends on how people want to use it!

    2. Charletta

Norwegian Cruiseline had a ship with rooms just for singles that are very affordable and beautiful, not too big not to small. The ship has activities and a lounge area specialty for people cruising alone.

  3. Dinah

Am hoping to travel to Scotland with someone who might enjoy the same and might even have traveled there before.

    1. Marcie Rogo

      Hi Dinah,
It’s great that you want to travel to Scotland! If you put that in your Stitch profile, then I’m sure a lot of members will be curious to talk to you. We even have a team member working in Scotland right now, so perhaps he can answer some questions for you 🙂

I do have some disabilities but I am NOT in a wheelchair I live in northern Arizona and would be interested in meeting other people in my region of course I’m open to meeting other people from other areas as well but I would especially like to know who is alone in northern Arizona and wanting to meet some companions

    1. Marcie Rogo

Hi Elana! I’m so glad you are exploring travel. Not to worry about any disabilities as we have some great cruise options as well! The top interest of all of our Stitch members is Travel, so I do feel you will have lots to talk about with our members! Once you sign up for Stitch, you’ll immediately see our travel section with our travel options. You can put an inquiry in and be connected with our Travel expert, too. Hope to see you soon on Stitch.

  7. Rosalie

I have traveled to Europe. I’m an independent travel agent. Looking for a travel partner male or female to talk to during travel. I would like to be in a group of mixed
people for social events. love to get involved + We are trying to do just what stitch is doing localy.
BTW I checked out that sign “We’re hiring”
    Nothing available right now???

    1. Andrew Dowling

      Hi Rose,

Thanks for pointing out the issue with the “We’re hiring” sign … we actually just filled a couple of positions but forgot to take the sign down! Appreciate you pointing this out so we could remove it (hopefully for the time being, as if we do manage to grow with Stitch we certainly hope to be hiring again in the near future!).

We’d welcome you coming along one of our trips as it sounds as if they would be totally the sort of thing you’re looking for. And given your experience with travel we’d certainly love to get any feedback or suggestions you have — it’s still early days for Stitch so we welcome any help we get!

      Many thanks,

  8. John

I’ve never been on a cruise, but would welcome a free one to Hawaii or even County Cork. The news, through the years, about cruise ship incidents, such as the ship that sank in italy, discouraged some in my family. And the cost discourages me. But if I could work on a ship, for my passage………….

    1. Marcie Rogo

Hi John! It’s great to hear from you. I understand how you can be discouraged, but we are always finding excellent rates and our travel expert Sandy notifies us of sales. We have a range of tours, and events, so perhaps the group events, like a Wine Therapy voyage into the SF Bay, might appeal to you!

  9. Sylvi

    Thx. Sylvia shattuck

      Dear Felix,
We would love to have you join on an upcoming Stitch trip, and perhaps to one of these destinations! You can become a Stitch member for free at any time. Just click “sign up” at the top of the page, and after you verify, you’ll be welcomed into our Travel community.

  11. Jan

I would like to take a 4 day cruise to somewhere> Been to Italy, Us Virgin Islands, Antigua., Bermuda, and Canada.
    Any ideas?

    1. Marcie Rogo

Hi Jan! That sounds like a great idea! It sounds like you’ve been lots of amazing places. We had a great 4-day cruise to Mexico, which you can read about here: I recommend you also submit this question to Sandy so that she can answer it in an upcoming travel blog. She is our travel expert via her blog here: It would be great to see you submit any ideas as a member of Stitch, and perhaps we can get a group to go!

    2. Michelle

      Croatia !!!

  12. Sharon p.

Will all of your trips continue to depart from the West coast? If so, adds quite a bit of extra $ for those of us who do not reside out west.

    1. Jackie Dion

      Hi Sharon,

Great question! No, not all of our trips depart from the West coast. Our upcoming trips to the Danube and Tuscany both do not have West coast departure locations – all members will make their own way to Florence and Nuremberg to meet up with our groups in those locations. When planning our other future trips, we always take into consideration our members’ locations, and we figure out where is most convenient for them to meet. If you have any suggestions for future trips and departure areas, we’re all ears! 🙂

      Thank you!

  13. Deb

I would like to review any ski holidays you may have planned for Australia for winter 2016.

  20. circuit aux seychelles

Hello everyone. I was searching through the Internet when I found out your article. I really enjoyed reading it and I came out with many ideas. You are definitely promoting for the perfect destinations. Keep up the good work.

  21. Brent Matthews

I’ve always thought that singles get badly treated with the single supplement.Your site is ideal for singles looking for a nice holiday.
I will certainly be looking at these further.Well done.

  22. Kin Timmons

I have been looking for the single tour over 50s for awhile. Now a day you can’t find anyone to talk about. All the research online, not a single one offer phone number anymore. I guess they expect you sign up but figured it out on your own. I definitely need a tour guide. I have been to couple trips with “Go Ahead”. They pick me up from the airport and take me to my hotel room. Then provided me the Roster for the whole trip. All I need to do is be ready to get on the tour bus in the morning. I was pretty please. Only thing is I feel I am little behind and cannot walk as fast as rest of the group. There were time I had to run to catch up. That is why I want to join with the group who are my age. The destinations I am interested: Ireland, Amsterdam, Austria, Australia, Italy. That’s all for now. I am in Houston, Texas, United States. Is there anyone I can contact to talk about it? I appreciate if any assistance you may offer.

  23. Becky

I live in Texas and am interested in finding a travel companion who has same interests. I am 60+ but can keep up with younger people as I am fit and energetic. I am female and am widowed. Not really interested in a male companion at this point, but want to travel with women or a woman’s group for tours-guided trips. I live near the Dallas area.

  24. Michael Nederostek

Hi my name is Michael . I am 57 I am looking for destinations inside the USA and out. I would like to try the Caribbean but I have no clue on where to go I’ve been doing some research on Belize. And actually I am curious about retiring there. Any suggestions
