6. Mentor Support

Getting the support you need

This module outlines how you get the support you need to be a great mentor throughout the lifetime of your Mentoring Group.

Learning to be a Mentor doesn’t happen overnight; we’re not expecting you to read the training program once and be instantly perfect. It’s an ongoing learning process, and you need to be supported as a Mentor, just as the Pioneers need to be supported in their journey.

The program itself is also still very new, so you’ll be playing an important role helping us understand what support and information you need, so that we can give even better support to the Mentors who join the program after you.

This module includes:

  • Role of the Mentor Support Group
  • How to get support as a Mentor
  • When to refer Pioneers to Stitch Support
  • Other helpful resources

The Mentor Support Group

Once you have completed the Mentor Training Program and passed the Mentor Quiz, you will be added to the Pioneer Mentor Support Group on Stitch.

This is a private group on Stitch, designed to provide support, guidance, and opportunities for feedback from all Mentors in a highly collaborative environment.

The Mentor Support Group will be where a number of things happen:

Regular monthly get-together for mentors

The Mentor Support Group is where we will host a regular monthly update for Pioneer Mentors.

The time of this event will change from month to month, in order to accommodate all the various different countries and time zones our amazing mentors live in. We’ll use the get-together to discuss the progress of your Pioneer Groups, share the outcomes we’re achieving across the community, answer questions, and provide the encouragement and support you need as a Mentor.

Even if you just need to vent about something that has bugged you, or hear from your fellow Mentors about their perspectives on an issue, this is when you can do it!

We will record the meeting for any Mentors who can’t attend.

Answering questions, getting advice

You don’t need to wait for a monthly get-together to ask questions or get advice. The Mentor Support Group is there as a resource for you to post questions about any topic, and get input from other Mentors as well as the Stitch team.

Questions can be posted to the Group Chat area. If they are likely to involve a large amount of discussion, feel free to post them as a standalone discussion for the group, by navigating to the Discussions tab and selecting “Add new” as shown below:

Program announcements

Finally, the Mentor Support Group will be where we make important announcements and updates about the program, including sharing information about the progress we’ve been making, the number of communities we have helped grow, and the number of members we have helped connect.

We feel we’re all going to be very proud of what the Pioneer Program can do, so are looking forward to sharing and celebrating the achievements of all our incredible Mentors and the Pioneers in their groups!

How to get help with Mentoring

The Mentor Support Group will be the most common way that you get help as a Mentor, but there may be occasions when you feel you need a bit of extra help, or you have a sensitive question that you don’t feel you should share with the entire mentoring group.

In these instances, it’s important for you to know you have someone you can call on for help.

You can either send a direct message to any of the group organizers from the Stitch team, or else send an email to and mention that it relates to the Pioneer Program, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Referring Pioneers to Stitch Support

We’ve mentioned this elsewhere in these pages, but it’s important to stress that your role as a Mentor isn’t to handle technical customer support queries.

If you do know the answer to a question and are happy to help, then by all means feel free to help the Pioneers in your group — they’ll appreciate hearing the answer directly from you and you’ll help reinforce the idea that you are there to support them.

If it’s a technical question that requires a lot of assistance, however, then you should tell the Pioneer to contact Stitch Support.

Please don’t contact Stitch Support on their behalf, as that often makes it even more difficult for us to track down and identify any issues. Just ask them to contact us directly, either via email at , or via Contact Stitch from the More menu in Stitch.

Other helpful resources

We’re sure you are familiar with these already, but just in case, there are a few resources that can provide a lot of help when it comes to support and advice on community building:

  • The Stitch Help Center should be your first port of call when it comes to answering questions about how to get the most out of a particular feature of Stitch
  • The Stitch Blog contains hundreds of articles related to Stitch, including stories about existing members or the communities they have built. It’s a great place to go for a bit of inspiration; we’d recommend subscribing so you get notified each time we post a new article!
  • The Stitch YouTube Channel contains dozens of tutorials, community updates, and interviews with existing members. Make sure you subscribe to it too!

Congratulations, you’ve made it to the end of Module 6! Please move on to Module 7 when you’re ready.
